WebCiliary body and iris melanomas Ciliary body tumors are more difficult to detect and differentiate than are choroidal melanomas because of their anterior location. These lesions must be at least 2 mm thick to be detected and greater than 3 mm thick to be differen-tiated with standardized echography. Enucleation (surgical removal of the eye) is the treatment of choice for large ciliary body melanomas. Small or medium sized tumors may be treated by an iridocyclectomy. Radiotherapy may be appropriate in selected cases.
