WebJul 7, 2024 · Can I use RedGard on Hardibacker? Either you use a vapor barrier behind the hardi, or you can use a waterproofing system(like redgard) over the hardi, but you should not do both. As Vic mentioned, hardi isn’t waterproof, so no sense in being concerned with the seams. Hardi, while not waterproof will not be affected by water. WebRedgard is a similar product. If done according to manufacturers instructions, it will seal nicely. Important to overlap seams in a shingle method. I've never had a failure. Bear in mind these membrane systems provide a secondary defense against ambient moisture and leaks. They must be applied over the backerboard which overlaps the tub flange.
